Affiliate Marketing for Sex or for Cash

Hugh MacLeod of gapingvoid.com has an interesting concept called “the Sex & Cash” theory.

Per his theory, a creative person has two jobs. One is creative, full of passion, exciting or in other words Sexy (its the sex part), but it doesn’t make you much money. The other job is what you do to pay your bills (the cash part). He gives the example of a waiter who writes for a newspaper to earn a living and then on his spare time writes novels to fulfill the “Sex”. There is a constant tug of war between the two. Its dream vs reality, aspirations vs survival, its that itch that never goes away.

Part time affiliate marketers like me can relate to it easily. There is something intoxicating about affiliate marketing. The hope of becoming your own boss, to break free, to be able earn a living all by yourself. But before you get there, you get up early to get ready to go to your day job to earn the cash.

I am a software programmer myself. I work for a big company to earn my cash. Then affiliate marketing is my “Sex”.
